At least when it comes to a job search, texting should be left at home with the kids.

Recently, I’ve received what is supposed to be professional communication from people who have opted (consciously or unconsciously) to insert text message “speak” into their messages.

Wrong!  Wrong!  Wrong!

In our hurried society, all of us are looking for ways to get more done with less and in less time – no arguments from me with this.  However, when it comes to professional communication, which includes transacting business, professional networking, or inquiring about a job, using text messaging short cuts is not acceptable for first-time encounters.  Once you have established a solid rapport and are sure texting shortcuts are acceptable, go for it – just make sure your audience will understand what it is you’re communicating.  Otherwise, you could find that you’ve squandered a great opportunity.

So, the next time u wan2 uz txtspk, thnk 2x if u r lukng 4 a job!

Unt…. (Until next time….)
