Who’s In Control of Your Career?

She also spent almost 25 years recruiting talent to six organizations across four industries and led the talent acquisition function for four of those organizations, including one global team.

In the last 25 years, the workplace agreement has changed dramatically!  However, many employees don’t seem to realize, or won’t accept, that it’s changed.  Companies no longer guarantee employment until retirement.  Nor do employers manage the reins on the buggy that guide your career – that job now belongs to you.

Today, you must own and manage your own career if you want to achieve success, reward, and fulfillment.  You must be clear about what you want to do, be able to effectively communicate this to others, be confident enough to pursue it, and seek out people who can help you along the way.

For most people, waiting on your boss or others to map out your career and guide you along the way may only bring mis-information, frustration, and stagnation.  As companies have been forced to scale back on resources, it has left leaders with very little time to develop employees like they once did or may even desire now.  Everyone is scrambling to just get their work done.

If you want your career to move forward, the best person to invest in your success is you!  As the poster at the mall said that I saw years ago: “OPPORTUNITY – Don’t wait for your ship to come in.  Swim out to it.”

Until next time….
